The U.S. federal government enterprise is not immune to blockchain-related hype. In October 2017, the General Services Administration (GSA) published an “Emerging Technologies Atlas” to track all emerging tech projects in the federal sector, including blockchain projects. Whether the technology is hyped or not, the government would surely benefit from well-applied blockchain applications. But that begs an important question: What is a well-applied blockchain application?
On Monday, June 10, the Data Foundation and Booz Allen Hamilton hosted a launch event to explore the findings of the newly published report titled Bringing Blockchain Into Government: A Path Forward for Creating Effective Federal Blockchain Initiatives. During the report launch event, attendees heard from federal agency officials and private sector tech leaders about how the federal government has been adopting emerging technologies, specifically blockchain applications.
Bringing Blockchain Into Government examines a cross-section of U.S. federal government blockchain projects to assess how well they apply blockchain to the problems they address. The report introduces how the federal government is using blockchain technology, characteristics of blockchain, and problems that it solves.
The event featured interviewees of our report who answered questions such as: when blockchain is appropriate in government? What uses will provide substantial benefits to government and society?
